4 apartments left uninhabitable following Naperville stove fire
A stove fire Monday morning left four apartments uninhabitable and caused $100,000 in damage to a complex in the 1600 block of Country Lakes Drive, the Naperville Fire Department said.
Fire crews arrived at the scene shortly after 10 a.m. to find heavy smoke coming from a second-floor unit, a news release said. Naperville police officers, who were first on the scene, attempted to put out the fire with extinguishers but were blocked by the volume of smoke, officials said.
Three engines, two ladder trucks, a heavy rescue squad and two battalion commanders were dispatched the building, and needed about 15 minutes to get the blaze under control and another 90 minutes to assist with building maintenance and conduct overhaul operations, the report said.
Two police officers were evaluated at the scene for possible smoke inhalation but did not require hospitalization. No residents or firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire is being attributed to cooking. In addition to the apartment where the blaze started, three others were deemed uninhabitable by the city.
